IFBB Crumbling: New federation launches
New Federation Launches
The past week would have to be one of the most controversial in the history of bodybuilding.
This continues as a new federation launches. Today we found out long time IFBB judge Lee Thompson has severed all ties with the organisation and is starting his own federation.
Kai Greene announced he had been banned from competing or even attending the Mr Olympia contest this weekend.
This news shocked bodybuilding fans around the world with the video getting almost 2 million views in just 24 hours.
The vision for the new federation is to unite athletes from all federations. Athletes from NPC,NABBA and the IFBB will all be welcome to compete with the best athletes in the world. Lee has been an official with the IFBB for 16 years so this is a major shift.
Athletes will also share in the revenue from the event. This is a revolution in bodybuilding. At present the prize money for the calibre of athletes is on the verge of a joke.
Athletes who are at the centre of events and attracting fans will be paid as such.
How does Kai Greene fit into this?
At present it is unclear. Lee mentions Kai multiple times in the video. The federation seeks to provide transparency in the judging so both athletes and competitors can see the results. This keeps everyone informed how judges come to their decisions.
The shared revenue concept could be a huge boost for the incentive to compete. The athletes are used throughout social media, campaigns and promotions however at present receive no revenue from it.
This is a really tough industry financially and without sponsorships most athletes simply can’t afford to complete.
When this new federation launches it could see a big shift and pressure other organisation to lift the standards.
