Protein Benefits

Protein is a  crucial building block for all bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. This emphasis it's importance as a staple supplement/macronutrient to be consuming daily!

The body utilises protein to build and repair muscle tissue. It also promotes the production of enzymes, hormones and other body chemicals. 

The following are reasons as to why protein is so important and oh so amazing...

Improves Muscle Mass

As already mentioned, protein is a crucial building block for all bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Therefore, consuming an adequate amount of protein is a key to maintaining and building muscle.

If you don't consume enough protein, your body will go into a state of catabolism. During this process, your muscles 'waste away'. As your body is requiring more protein, your muscle fibres will break down in order to supply your body with energy. 

Fills you Up!

Consuming protein leaves more you in a satiety state (more satisfied) than when consuming carbohydrates and fats. This is why a high protein diet is always recommended when losing weight as it leaves you feeling fuller for longer and you will be less likely to snack. 

Protein also creates thermogenesis in the body. This means, when consuming protein, the body requires more energy (calories) to break it down. Therefore, protein is less likely to be stored as fat in the body.

Manages Blood Sugar Levels 

Unlike other foods (e.g. carbohydrates, processed foods, sugar) that increase fluctuations in blood sugar levels... protein does the exact opposite.

Consuming foods high in protein will slow down the absorption in sugar during a meal. This of course will help keep sugar balanced, your appetite and mood in check.

Improves Mood

Some amino acids found in protein based foods are required to control hormone levels. Keeping hormone levels in check and balanced is critical for ensuring healthy bodily functions take place and that your mood isn't up and down. 

Protein encourages neurotransmitters function and synthesise hormones such as dopamine and serotonin that keep us positive, healthy and happy. 

Improves Brain Function

Protein is needed to create enzymes, (as already mentioned) hormones and neurotransmitters that are crucial for brain function. 

It has been proven that having a higher protein diet can help improve brain learning and motor skills.

Maintains Strong Bones

Consuming a wholesome, highly nutrient dense protein diet can help heal damaged bones, prevent weak bones, fractures and osteoporosis. This is because protein assists in the absorption of calcium and helps with bone metabolism. 

Promotes Heart Health

A high protein diet lowers blood pressure levels!

Slows Ageing & Promotes Longevity 

By consuming protein, it helps synthesise glutathione - a very important antioxidant. This antioxidant helps us detox and reduce carcinogens.

Carcinogens are cancer raising properties. Protein helps lower this toxic chemical which which in hand also slows down ageing properties.
