Safety Precautions

When you stretch, you are actually lengthening out your muscles. Regular stretching can potentially help prevent injuries, back pain, balance problems... just to name a few. Therefore, you are creating a safe barrier for yourself - how awesome!

By developing flexibility, muscles are more easily able to achieve full range of motion.

To prevent injury and encourage safety, we ask you to be aware that, stretching should NEVER be painful. Only stretch to a point it feels good and you bring the muscle to a point of slight tension. While stretching remember to breath and relax!

You Use it Everyday!

I bet you have never realised, or thought about it this way... but did you know we need and use flexibility everyday to perform daily activities?

Some everyday activities include...

  • Sweeping the floor
  • Bending over to reach something
  • Bending down to lift up a child
  • Making a bed

... the list goes on! Without flexibility, these daily activities could be impossible to perform.

Age

It is important to maintain flexibility as it does decline with age. To prevent stiffness and limited mobility, keep active and stretch!

Keep in mind, if you do lead a sedentary lifestyle, your flexibility can decline that way.

Time & Frequency

It is advisable to try and stretch every time you workout. Warm up stretches will prevent injury by loosing and preparing muscles for exercise and warm down stretching will relax and release tension in over worked muscles.

Stretching every workout will also encourage to maintain and improve you flexibility.

It is recommend we stretch 4 to 7 days a week. It is suggested flexibility training should be performed for at least 5 to 10 minutes.

Static Vs Dynamic

Here is the difference between and when you should perform the two types of stretching...

Dynamic Stretching

Is generally performed pre-exercise. The movements are ideal to warm up the joints and promote muscles activation.

Static Stretching

Static stretching is advised performing after exercise. This is where stretches are held for a period of time. The stretch should be performed until you feel slight tension be minimally challenging. If static stretching is performed pre-exercise, your muscles may not be warmed up and holding a stretch could cause injury.

Remember, while stretching, know your limits and don't over do it to prevent any injuries. Also ensure you inhale, exhale and breathe comfortably - this will help you hold the stretch longer and promote relaxation. Lastly, we encourage you to warm up and warm down stretch - trust us, you will prevent injury and improve overall performance.
